Satchi and Posey's Journey
|
|
It is difficult to fully describe how challenging the past few weeks have been since Posey and Satchi joined the TSR family.
After vet visits and a double dose of antibiotics, Satchi appears to be turning the corner with the upper respiratory infection and we are hopeful she can soon be scheduled
for her other needed surgeries including a dental as her teeth are literally falling out of her mouth, she also has a mammary growth and needs to be spay.
Posey is still struggling, unfortunately. We have asked about canine influenza and other conditions, but the vet feels she would not have improved to the extent that
she has if that were the case. She seems unable to tolerate the double dose of antibiotics and the vet feels they are taxing her system but is reluctant to take her
off the meds because of the risk of relapse and pneumonia. Because of the stomach upset, it is challenging to get Posey to eat enough to get needed medications down
and anti-nausea and other GI meds seem to provide limited relief. She has made multiple trips to the vet for subcutaneous fluids and IV medications; she's even
been tested for pancreatitis - we are just hoping that the next round of chest x-rays will show the respiratory infection has improved to the point that at least one
of the antibiotics is no longer necessary. The vet is recommending a few overnight stays at the clinic to allow them to monitor her and give her the appropriate medications
by IV.
Despite how bad she feels, Posey is still loving to her foster parents and all her caregivers. Once she is through this infection, she is still facing a spay and
dental, but she has to get a lot better before those can be scheduled.
Both girls continue to improve and are awaiting surgical dates.
If you haven't already donated, would you please consider a donation to help with Posey and Satchi's medical expenses? These beautiful and sweet girls deserve a chance
to live happily ever after.
